A Quandary
I got thinking today about where I’d like to live, when I finally get back on my feet, find a nice place, get a mortgage and generally pretending to be “all grown up” and so forth. Do I stay in the area I’ve lived my entire life so far, or do I move somewhat closer to work?
I love the area I live in now. It’s extremely low crime, quiet, clean and generally the height of dull. I love it, and I really don’t want to move from it if it can be helped. But at the same time I’m spending 2-3 hours every single working day stuck in a tin can with 4 wheels trudging my way through never-ending traffic jams to get to work and back. There isn’t anything that drives me more mad than wasting my life sat mindlessly in a car crawling from one set of lights to the next. So what to do?
My life outlook is now that I “work to live” and no longer “live to work”, so is moving closer to my place of employment a backward step in my new philosophy on life; or is it a sensible option allowing me to “live” more for myself by spending less time – and by consequence money – sat in a car? I still don’t want to move from where I live, I cannot move my work closer, and I don’t really want to change jobs.
Oh, such a quandary.
What would you do?

Moving closer to work would be a huge step back. You know that I have been telling you for years to quit your job, err start a new career. You are destined for… something different. Like I have room to talk? I know but, at least you are in a position now (better than I) that you can start over to some extent.

The current economic climate is not the one to be quitting jobs and looking for something anew, I fear. I’ve been doing my line of work for the last 7+ years now, I don’t see I have any other marketable skills anyone would presently want.
World domination and Supreme Commander of the Universe will have to wait for a little while longer.

I’d recommend finding the home you can afford that is somewhere between where you live and love and where you work – or beg/borrow/steal for a transfer closer to your home(s).
