Recovery Disks
It seems the days when computers came with proper CD’s of full operating systems for use should a hard drive crash or be upgraded, are long behind us. In fact the last time I remember that happening were around about Windows 95. 14 years ago. Shocking.
I’m using Mum’s PC as my primary workspace at the moment as noted in an earlier post, primarily because it has a larger screen and a faster processor. This machine however, came with no recovery media whatsoever. I found after some random ‘Start Menu’ surfing that there is a “make your own” recovery DVD option buried under ‘Compaq Tools’, and Mum, not knowing about these sorts of things, hadn’t made any.
As a firm believer in planning for the worst case scenario, I’ve just burnt off two sets. I’ll leave one in Mum’s CD organizer, and the other one is going in my collection in case the former gets misplaced at some point. Of course, thanks to paranoia on Compaq’s part the tool would only let me burn one copy.. but I’m not a geek for nothing.

I definitely do not care that PC companies no longer provide system restore discs. On another note, I love these random pictures of Sergeant Andrex.

Haha, yeah it’s great finding little ‘workarounds’ for stuff like that. I often think the programmers leave these things specifically and purposefully for geeks. Also, all good OSes come in a free download anyhow… just saying ;oP
